Friday Tasting: Field Blends

  • Mom & Pop Wine Shop 6908 NE Sandy Blvd Portland (map)

Field Blends are wines made from vineyards planted to many different grape varieties, often with white and red grapes intermingled. The grapes are harvested & fermented together, yielding a snapshot of a particular vineyard in that region & vintage. Sometimes the vineyards were planted in new regions where it was uncertain which grapes in particular would thrive; sometimes the history of viticulture on a site is so old, people would simply keep replanting to new varieties when vines died, resulting in a big mixture over time. Whatever the reason, it’s always fun to explore different methods of making wine and we often hear people saying they like “blends.” This week we will taste wines whose composition is determined by the plants in the vineyard rather than blending different lots in the cellar. $5 tasting includes snacks
